People are often surprised by just how much there is to do around here once they arrive. From the cabins near Crickhowell you have mountains, waterfalls, canals, market towns and proper days out all within easy reach. Here is our local guide to the best of it.
Get up a mountain
Pen y Fan is the big one, the highest peak in southern Britain, and a satisfying half day. Closer to us, the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain above Crickhowell are both friendlier climbs with wonderful views for the effort.
Chase a waterfall
This is Waterfall Country, so make the most of it. The Four Waterfalls walk near Ystradfellte is the classic, where you can walk behind Sgwd yr Eira. There is a waterfall right by the cabins too, and the canal towpath for a gentler amble.
Potter round a market town
Crickhowell is full of independent shops and good pubs and is a lovely afternoon. Abergavenny is the foodie capital, Hay-on-Wye is the town of books, and Brecon itself sits handsomely on the river. All within a short drive.
A proper day out
For a rainy day or a family day, you are spoilt. Go underground with an ex-miner at Big Pit, explore the vast caves and dinosaur park at the National Showcaves, ride the Brecon Mountain Railway, or step back 900 years at Tretower Court and Castle.
Time it with a festival
Green Man, Brecon Jazz, the Crickhowell Walking Festival, Hay Festival and the Abergavenny Food Festival all happen on our doorstep through the year. We are a handy base for all of them.
